International Overdose Awareness Day is a global event held on August 31st each year. Its purpose is to raise awareness of overdoses, reduce the stigma of drug-related deaths, and acknowledge the grief felt by families and friends.
In honor of Overdose Awareness Day, several organizations and support groups are hosting free events.
2023 Overdose Awareness Events
- Chicago: Illinois Harm Reduction & Recovery Coalition will be hosting the End Overdose Now Rally & Resource Fair on August 28th from 3-7pm at Federal Plaza in Chicago.
- Glendale Heights: Glendale Heights Police Department presents Celebrate Life through Art and Music to raise awareness about overdose and prevention in the community. The event will take place on August 30th from 6-9pm. See the event flyer for details.
- Addison: Serenity House, DuPage Recovery Oriented System of Care (ROSC), and DuPage Recovery Community Organization (DRCO) will be hosting an event on August 31st from 6:30-8:30pm. To see more details about this event, view the flyer.
- Arlington Heights: Live4Lali is hosting an event on August 31st from 6-8pm at North School Park located at N Evergreen Ave & E Eastman St, Arlington Heights, IL. A naloxone training will be provided at the event. View the flyer for more details.
